Anders B. Kissmeyer
Date of Birth: May 2nd, 1956
Education: MSc in Chemical Engineering, MSc in Brewing, Scandinavian School of Brewing (1984)
Anders Kissmeyer is a renowned figure in the brewing industry with over four decades of experience. After earning dual MSc degrees in chemical engineering and brewing, he spent 16 years at Carlsberg, where he honed his expertise in large-scale brewing operations. In 2001, driven by his vision of creating a craft brewpub inspired by the American model but rooted in Nordic beer cuisine, Anders left Carlsberg to pursue his entrepreneurial ambitions. This vision came to life in 2003 with the opening of Nørrebro Bryghus, where he served as both Head Brewer and COO until 2010.
From 2010 to 2016, Anders ran his own company, Kissmeyer Beer & Brewing, focusing on three core activities: gypsy brewing under the Kissmeyer Beer brand, consultancy in beer and brewing, and beer communication. His work in this field included editorial responsibilities for the Scandinavian Brewers’ Review, brewing courses, beer tastings, and public speaking engagements.
In 2016, Anders sold Kissmeyer Beer to Royal Unibrew A/S, where he continued working part-time as Head of Craft Beer Creation. During this time, he was instrumental in establishing the cutting-edge Anarkist microbrewery within the Albani brewery in Odense. The remaining activities of his company continued under the new name Anders Kissmeyer Master Brewer. Anders retired from Royal Unibrew in June 2024.
Over the course of his career, Anders has been an influential figure in the industry. He served on the board of the Danish Brewers’ Association for nearly 20 years and was a council member of the European Brewery Convention. He has also taught at the University of Copenhagen and the Scandinavian School of Brewing and served as a judge at international beer competitions.
Anders has been recognized with numerous prestigious awards, including the title of "Best Still Active Master Brewer in the World" (2011) from The Scandinavian School of Brewing, "Honorary Beer Sommelier" from the British Beer Academy (2013), and the Anniversary Award from the Danish Brewers’ Association (2016) for his outstanding contributions to the Danish brewing industry.
