Independent elective study

You can design an independent elective study based on preapproved courses or you may design your own study under the guidance of a supervisor from Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences.
The self designed study may be carried out as an independent research or review project of 2.5 or 5 ECTS credits.
Before you start working on the project, you must submit the signed project agreement to master@sund.ku.dk and pay the tuition fee.
Self designed course
Design a course that meet your specific needs. Select a specific topic together with your supervisor of choice, and agree on the objective, scope and size (2.5 or 5 ECTS) of the project.
You must provide a written account (two to three pages) of the objective, scope, size and content of the project, as well as a supplementary description of specific academic objectives. It is important that your your supervisor approve the project description and sign the project agreement.
The project may be:
- based on experimental work in a laboratory or elsewhere
- an academic review
- based on calculations/modulations/simulations
- based on conference activities
- based on a course taken elsewhere (the course must be pre-approved by the Study Board)
Preapproved course
For this type of individual elective study (5 ECTS), you must participate in a pre-approved course and write a report.
The Study Board has pre-approved some Atrium courses that can be used for this purpose (see list of pre-approved Atrium courses in the course curriculum).
If you wish to choose a course that is not pre-approved, please apply for approval from the Study Board before you start your individual study.

Learning Outcome
A student who has concluded the individual project will be able to:
Knowledge
- explain and justify relevant scientific documentation and to justify the choices made
- take a critical approach to the methodologies/theories applied within area of the project, based on international research relevant to the research question/hypotesis
Skills
- apply, analyze and consider key scientific elements
- plan and carry out a practice-oriented research project that can help strengthening part of regulatory sciences
- select and process a well-defined and clear science problem into a statement of purpose
- formulate a research question/hypothesis
- describe the results achieved and draw conclusions in a way that is clear and understandable
Competencies
- critically discuss, assess, conclude and put into perspective own and others' research results at a high international scientific level while including relevant literature
- analyse and discuss application of new methods, technologies and strategies to aid successful medicines development and/or regulatory review

EU/EEA citizens: 2,800 DKK*
Non-EU/EEA citizens: 4,300 DKK
5 ECTS project
EU/EEA citizens: 5,600 DKK*
Non-EU/EEA citizens: 8,600 DKK
*Citizens of the EU, EEA or Switzerland is entitled to a subsidised tuition fee, due to EU legislation.
Admission
The Independent elective study is only available for students enrolled on Master of Medicines Regulatory Affairs

Enrolment is done in collaboration between the student and the project supervisor. The student is responsible for finding a suitable supervisor at the desired department.
