Assistant professor, Department of Pharmacy, University of Copenhagen
During this course you will, understand and address potential major challenges for biotherapeutics related to pharmaceutical formulation design, development, processing, efficacy, and safety.
This course provides an in-depth overview of the challenges and complexities involved in the development of biotherapeutics, focusing on pharmaceutical formulation, technological processing, and regulatory aspects. It addresses the key issues surrounding the development of biologically active macromolecules such as peptides, antibodies, and oligonucleotides, as well as other biological materials like living organisms and stem cells.
The course covers various stages of drug development, from discovery through to assessment, highlighting topics such as molecular engineering, drug design, efficacy and safety testing, and regulatory considerations. Case studies and expert-led discussions will be used to explore the latest advances and innovative approaches in biotherapeutic development.
Special attention is given to the need for specialised formulation and delivery strategies to overcome the challenges posed by the structural complexity and instability of these drugs. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the evolving landscape of biotherapeutics and their potential for creating new, improved treatments.
