Clinical Course at a Specialized Headache Center
This course is a part of
All aspects including the role of physiotherapists, nurses, secretaries and psychologists will be covered and you will get hands on experience with injections of botulinum toxin and greater occipital nerve blockades.
The course is organized as a combination of hands on management of patients and lectures, which will be mainly cased based. The course will include homework, where you will have to prepare clinically oriented presentations. At the end you will have learned how a multidisciplinary tertiary headache centre managing complex headache patients is organized and how to put previously acquired theory into practice.
Topics
- Participation in patient interviews, examinations, follow up-visits and prevention strategies.
- Interdisciplinary treatments as well as patient communication.
- Instructions and strategic discussions with patients and relatives.
- Case demonstrations, lectures and clinical training in a pediatric headache center.
- Hands-on demonstration and practise of injections of botulinum toxin, and hands-on demonstration and practise of greater occipital nerve blockades.
4 weeks of blended learning
The first week is a part-time online course with online lessons, discussions and quizzes and self-study activities. The three following weeks are a clinical stay at the Danish Headache Center, in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, you will:

have insight into working in an internationally recognised headache centre
-
have deepened your knowledge of rare headache types and severe, treatment-resistant cases
-
be able to administer GON-blocks, botulinum toxin, and other invasive treatments

be capable of initiating interdisciplinary treatments and designing follow-up programmes with treatment adjustments
-
be able to contribute to teaching, research, and the development of international treatment guidelines.
Admission criteria
You must meet the following criteria to be admitted to this course:
- Hold a relevant bachelor degree or equivalent.
- Have a minimum 2 years of relevant job experience.
- Be proficient in English.

Priority is given to enrolled students
This course is offered as a compulsory course on the Master of Headache Disorders programme. Priority is given to students already enrolled. Once the enrolled students have been admitted to the course, the remaining seats are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Citizens of the EU, EEA, or Switzerland are eligible for a subsidised tuition fee in accordance with EU legislation, which accounts for the difference in pricing.
