Structure

The specialisation in Neurology comprises core courses, advanced courses and a Master’s Project. Recommended length of study is 4 years.

Each ECTS credit is equivalent to 27.5 hours of study. The total workload is estimated to 60 ECTS (1650 hours), which corresponds to one year of full-time study at a university.

Intensive courses in a flexible schedule

The Master’s programme consists mainly of short intensive courses which allows you to study alongside your veterinarian practice. To participate in the programme you need to make a total of 8 visits to Copenhagen, Denmark, as follows:

  • Module 1 and 5-7 are 5-days intensive courses conducted at the University of Copenhagen.
  • Module 2-3 are 6-days intensive courses conducted at the University of Copenhagen.
  • Module 4 entails a clinical externship, hosted either at the University of Copenhagen or another international EAEVE- or AVMA-accredited university hospital.
  • For the Master’s Project, students receive personalised academic guidance, which is also available online if needed. This project culminates in an oral examination conducted in Copenhagen or online.

The courses are available every second year and all course dates will be announced well in advance, providing the opportunity to schedule the courses within your busy work life.

Specialist training

Selective courses in Neurology are pre-approved towards the qualification as a veterinary specialist according to local standards in Denmark, Sweden and Norway.

The Danish Veterinary Association (DVA/DDD), The Norwegian Veterinary Association (DNV) and The Swedish Veterinary Association (SVF).

Core courses

The core courses are pre-approved towards:

  • Danish Certificate in Small Animal Disease.1
  • The Swedish specialist in Diseases of Dogs and Cats – Steg 1.2
  • The Norwegian specialist in diseases of dogs and cats.3

2 All courses, except module 4, are approved as 5 courses towards 'Specialistkompetens i sjukdomar hos hund och katt – Steg 1'.
3 All courses, except module 4, are approved as 148 hours towards 'Specialisering i veterinærmedisin, specialitet smådyr'.

The Master's programme

The Master of Companion Animal Clinical Science is approved as part of the credentials towards the Danish Veterinary Specialist (Specialdyrlæge).

Lessons focus on using evidence-based practice for practical learning.

The tuition fees cover all course materials and catering during course hours (excluding Module 4 catering).

Citizens from the EU, EEA, and Switzerland are eligible for reduced tuition fees according to EU legislation.

The tuition fee is paid per course and are charged once per semester. The fees for individual courses are listed under each course.

The specialisation track in Neurology accepts new students every other year, starting in October/November of odd-numbered years.

Short intensive courses allow you to study along your veterinarian practice.
