Marta Agnieszka Papis-Almansa
LL.D. Marta Papis-Almansa is an Assistant Professor at the University of Alicante (Spain), a visiting researcher at the University of Copenhagen and a member of the VAT Expert Group at the European Commission.
Marta used to live and work in Scandinavia for 14 years. She obtained her doctoral degree at Lund University in 2016. In 2017 Marta was awarded the Maurice Lauré Prize by the International Fiscal Association for her doctoral thesis on “Insurance in European VAT: On the Current and Preferred Treatment in the light of New Zealand and Australian GST Systems”. In Lund Marta was, for several years, responsible for indirect tax education for the university’s Master’s Programme in European and International Tax Law. She has been teaching tax law at Kristianstad University and collaborating with the University of Copenhagen where in years 2021-2023 she pursued a Marie Sklodowska Curie Individual fellowship with a project on the advantages and challenges of the use of new technologies in VAT reporting, collection and auditing.
She was also a co-organizer and co-speaker with Professor Ben Terra at the VAT seminars in 2018 and 2019, organizer of a conference an editor of a book in honour of Prof. Ben Terra (EU Value Added Tax and Beyond: Essays in honour of Ben Terra, IBFD 2023). She has experience in educating and advising a broad audience including tax professionals, legal practitioners, businesses, tax administrations and scholars on European and international tax and VAT issues. Marta has been a speaker at numerous tax law congresses and seminars in Europe and beyond, and has been a guest teacher at advanced master and post-master programmes at Amsterdam University, Erasmus University in Rotterdam and the University of Lisbon.
